How I Help
My work is about forming a relationship with you to understand what you want to change, and the pace of change that works for you. From there, my role is to support you through the process of learning how to help yourself by strengthening your inner resources through body and mind. I primarily use the somatic therapy framework known as Bodynamics, which was pioneered in the 1980’s by Lisbeth Marcher of Denmark. I also draw upon a variety of spiritual principles and practices that I’ve found helpful for my clients.
Bodynamics is a way of understanding the connection between the emotional and physical stages of our childhood development that shaped the way we operate in the world today. Through this understanding, we will identify inner resources specific to you that can be strengthened to help you feel more connected with yourself and in your relationships with others. The approach is especially useful for dealing with early material that imprinted during the non-verbal time of our life. This somatic and touch work approach will access things that are unavailable through talk therapy.
Every emotion you’ve ever had or will have has a sensation associated with it in our bodies. Many of us have been taught to avoid the feelings and sensations we don’t like, by depressing them or by distracting ourselves in unhealthy ways, usually modeled by our family of origin. Yet the history and feelings remain in our bodies and lead to unnecessary emotional suffering, confusion and/or mental and physical “dis-ease”.Understanding this is the beginning of the healing journey.
By using this approach as a model for change, I help individuals and couples in many ways, including the following areas:
- Relationships and Boundaries
- Self-esteem and Self-worth
- Grounding and Centering
- Depression and Anxiety
- Social skills and Intimacy
- Trauma andAbuse
- Sexuality and Sensuality
